Aluminium Beverage Can Recycling Rate Increases In Europe

The European Aluminium Association (EAA), has reported a 2.4% increase in the used beverage can (UBC) recycling rate in Europe during 2010. This leads to a total UBC recycling rate of 66.7% or 24 billion aluminium cans being recycled during the same year.

This figure has grown since the EAA, who has been reporting UBC recycling figures for the last 20 years, reported a UBC recycling rate of 30% during the early nineties.

Joint efforts, between the aluminium industry and beverage can makers, are now being focused on cans being consumed outside of the home and the importance of recycling outside of the home environment.

The ‘Every Can Counts’ concept has been introduced which aims to help people recycle cans while they are at work, college or just ‘out and about’
