Novelis has completed its two year, $400 000 expansion program in South Korea which includes the largest recycling centre for aluminium beverage cans.
The expansion of its Yeongu and Ulsan plants includes a hot rolling finishing mill, cold rolling mill, pusher furnace, high-speed slitter and annealing furnaces all of which will contribute to the company's increased production capacity in the region by more than 50%.
As more auto manufacturers turn to build lighter, more fuel efficient vehicles, the demand for aluminium is expected to exceed the 25% compound annual growth rate which is projected for the next five years.
Novelis says its expansion in South Korea wil hep it meet this growing market.
